STRENGTHS:
+ Defensive versatility
+ Lockdown ability
+ Rebounding
+ Speed
IMPROVEMENTS:
- Accumulation
- Second position
Perth's Loch Mactaggart has proven his ability to perform a variety of roles down back, possessing the versatility to either lock down on an opponent or run free on the rebound. His explosiveness was observed at the state draft combine, where he performed well across the board and achieved top five overall finishes in the standing and running vertical jumps.
A tenacious and crafty defender, Mactaggart can intercept and pocket dangerous forwards with such powerful athletic traits. He also utilises his speed on the attack, driving forward with aggressive rebound run and carrying the ball confidently. In combination with other small-medium backs, he not only mops up the spills, but quickly gets the ball moving in transition.
Mactaggart's kicking is also quite accurate and can be incisive when attacking the corridor. Given his 71 per cent uncontested possession rate at the National Championships, perhaps he could become a more prolific accumulator of the ball to compound his impact over four quarters. Even developing in a second position, perhaps on the wing or as a pressure forward, could enhance his stocks.
