PROFILE:

Lucy Thompson took on the role of skipper at the Tasmania Devils this year and balanced her duties between playing forward and spending time in midfield. A hard-edged, bigger-bodied forward/midfielder, Thompson played in the Under 17 Futures match as a bottom-ager and then for Allies through her top-age national carnival.

Standing at 169cm, Thompson is an in-between height but provides copius amounts of defensive pressure with 7.1 tackles per game. She averaged 12.6 disposals across the Coates Talent League Girls season, and though she had her injury interruptions, still got to put in a relatively consistent year. Her clean hands on the inside and up forward were among her better traits with her competitive nature and strength also standing out.

While her athleticism is an area that needs improvement compared to her strength and footballing prowess, she is more of a contested prospect who can extract the ball to her faster teammates. With time and a bigger preseason, Thompson will also improve her endurance while polishing up her kicking. As a whole she is a versatile prospect who has the capacity to compete with more experienced opponents.
