SUMMARY: Matthew Gahan has been a quiet achiever for the Stingrays in season 2018, playing out of defence, and working through the midfield. He does not win much of the ball, but he hurts teams with his use and decision making coming out of defence. Being an offensively minded defender, Gahan does lack the speed which might knock him down a rung when compared to others, but his work rate through a high endurance base, allows him to run all day long. He positions himself well in the defensive 50, and is able to remain composed with the ball in his hands and is someone his teammates can rely upon to get the ball out of the danger zone and into safety. His kicking efficiency of 68.1 per cent is considered elite, especially considering he won 43.6 per cent of his possessions, contested.
