PROFILE:

Mekah Morrissy is one of those players that teammates love to go into battle alongside. She is a team-first leader who captained Geelong Falcons and co-captained Vic Country with superb and clear direction. Though having specialised as a wing for the Falcons and Vic Country this season, Morrissy managed to win a ridiculous 55.2 per cent of her possessions in a contest, something unheard of for a predominantly outside player.

The reason behind that number is her ability to just naturally fold in towards the contest and add another number around the stoppage, while also backing up her teammates both inside 50 and across defence to lift up the tackling intensity across the board. Her defensive pressure and contested work, alongside her footy IQ enable her to understand the game and where to go to best impact the game for her side.

While her kicking itself can be polished up and she is not able to impact in the air like some, Morrissy is just a fierce competitor who punches above her 158cm height. While usually not a massive accumulator, she got better in 2024, averaging 17.7 disposals for the Falcons, helped by a massive 40-touch effort in the wet against Gippsland Power.
