SUMMARY: Through no fault of his own, Michael Mummery's 2018 season is almost like a bottom-age year, having substantial parts of 2017 out of action due to a golden staph infection which was serious enough to leave him bedridden and miss out on the NTFL finals series with Nightcliff. His conditioning and endurance are areas that are still a work in progress due to the illness, which has impacted his accumulation and no doubt to some extent, his speed, clocking just 3.18 seconds in the 20m sprint at the State Draft Combine. But Mummery has no shortage of strengths, and should be considered for his long-term advantages. He has a high football IQ, is a good size for a half-forward to transition into the midfield in the future, can play both through the middle and up forward, and has scope for the future. While his statistics at the National Under 18 Championships do not flatter him, Mummery's recovery from what was a terrible illness, show terrific resilience and with a full pre-season behind him, will no doubt have him back to his best sooner, rather than later. Finally, at NEAFL level, Mummery was able to kick a goal in every game he played, showing consistent scoreboard impact.
