One of the finds of the early-season period was Rory Wright. Plying his trade for Sandringham Dragons, he cracked a relatively strong midfield group and eventually played his way into the Vic Metro squad from relative obscurity. Although, it was Wright's work late in the year that truly elevated his stocks, picking up the pieces from a steady National Championships campaign to storm up draft boards as an industrious half-back.

The left-footer possesses weapons in his bullet-like kicking and aggressive rebound run. He's strong through the core and harder than a cat's head, capable or breaking through tackles or soaring for courageous intercept marks. Whether operating along the wing, on-ball, or across half-back, Wright looks to bring the play forward and has begun to find the balance between attack and defence, especially after his backline move.

While he has plenty of traits which will translate to AFL football, Wright's lack of raw leg speed is the main knock on his game. He has also made good strides in terms of decision making - both in and out of possession. With a good combination of polish and grit, the hybrid midfielder-defender has pushed himself into the second round conversation and looms as a bargain get anywhere outside of that range. He can do serious damage.
