They say defence wins premierships and Woodville-West Torrens backman Tate Delmenico was a key figure in the Eagles' Under 18 flag this year. The 190cm prospect earned state selection on the back of his aerial exploits, often playing above his size to shut down dangerous tall forwards and opposition attacks.

Delmenico's bread and butter is his marking ability. He leaps courageously at the ball and is able to clunk it with one grab more often than not. Whether splitting open a pack, outbodying his opponent one-on-one, or sitting in the defensive 50 hole, the 17-year-old is a dominant aerial presence.

Measuring up below key position height, Delmenico arguably plays more like a tall and may have to lift his offensive output to become a more versatile option. As it stands, he is quite a penetrative kick but lacks composure and execution at times, so can look to set up the play and be a more prolific rebounding threat.
