Leagues: AFL U18 Championships
STRENGTHS:
+ Aerial ability
+ Mobility
+ Upside
+ Versatility
IMPROVEMENTS:
- Consistency
- Size
Somewhat of a bolter out of South Australia this year, Thomas McKay possesses raw talent. The tall defender is capable of playing at either end of the ground, and at 192cm, is an eye-catching aerialist. He showcased impressive spring while representing South Australia at this year's National Championships, and also for Glenelg's Under 18 outfit which won the minor premiership.
McKay's mobility and versatility point towards great upside. He is a capable intercept marker down back, but is just as capable as a marking threat up forward. He booted goals in each of his last three outings this season, along with a bag of three against eventual premier, Woodville-West Torrens in Round 13. He also reeled in a whopping six contested marks in that game.
Improvement will come as McKay continues to fill out his slight frame. Adding size will allow him to clunk even more overhead marks and hold his own one-on-one, rather than always relying on his mobility and spring. In doing so, his impact will be more consistently sustained. He is somewhat of an in-between size too - not quite key position but tall enough to compete in that realm.
