Zahlia Niemann is a rare case of where a top-ager who was not selected in the final State Academy squad has produced an unforgettable end to the season at SANFLW level. The talented Eagles tall has never been a high production player, but her last month in particular - though the whole season was impressive - was sublime, averaging 15.0 disposals, 3.3 marks, 4.5 tackles and 5.8 rebound 50s.

The rise to being one of the most reliable tall defenders in the competition was a quick one, with Niemann only turning 18 in June and unfortunately played just three games across her opening two SANFLW seasons as she also juggled a talented basketball career playing at the Under 18 National Basketball Championships in 2023. In 2025, Niemann became a staple in Narelle Smith's defensive half, averaging 11.1 disposals, 2.6 marks, 2.1 tackles and 3.8 rebound 50s for the season.

While her athletic elements and speed are areas to still develop, Niemann is strong one-on-one and boasts a terrific defensive attitude. Her aerial ability and overall game sense has really developed in her top-age season, and in terms of first-time draft eligible players outside state squads, Niemann is among the better available players in this year's draft.
