Schwagmeyer leads DC Medal count after two rounds

PERTH Lynx star, Alison Schwagmeyer leads Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) Draft Central (DC) Medal after polling seven votes from three games in the first two rounds. The Perth guard polled best on court in the Lynx’ opening round win, before a second best on court, and a “one vote” in the Lynx’ two losses over the weekend. Schwagmeyer has averaged 21.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists this season to lead the points in season 2019/20 with 65 total.

She moved one clear of Southside Flyers’ Jenna O’Hea and University of Canberra (UC) Capital’s Kelsey Griffin, with Griffin picking up back-to-back best on courts in her two games thus far. Griffin’s two games have netted her an average of 19.0 points, 16. rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 blocks, while shooting from the field at 46.7 per cent. O’Hea has averaged 20.0 points, 7.3 rebounds. 5.7 assists, 3.3 steals and 1.0 block in the season and been the best performing off-season transfer.

Rounding out the top five are Melbourne Boomers’ Cayla George and Southside Flyers’ Leilani Mitchell – with Mitchell being equally as impactful as O’Hea since crossing from the reigning premiers – with both players polling five votes this season. Last round’s leader Colleen Planeta (Adelaide Lightining) remains on four votes, while Perth Lynx’s Imani McGee-Stafford joined her on four.
