True Blues’ five-fa, Bat breaks drought in Team of the Week
AFTER what may turn out to have been a potentially season-defining weekend, there were a number of stellar performances. This includes a stellar batting performance from a EMP opener, a five wicket haul from a Prahran star, and in a rare occurrence, a Plenty Valley player has made the Victorian Women’s Premier Cricket Round 11 Team of the Week.
1. Alyssa Humphries (Essendon Maribyrnong Park)
Not only did Humphries top score for the Bombers, but her score was the highest score for the weekend across the entire league. Her 83 helped the Bombers clinch a crucial win in the race for the finals.
2. Anna Lanning (Box Hill)
The Mustangs veteran had another good outing with the bat, making 48 as her side secured a crucial win over Plenty Valley.
3. Bhavisha Devchand (Ringwood)
The Ringwood skipper was again the leading light for her side with the bat. Although the Rams eventually went on to lose, Devchand made 54 to keep her side in contention.
4. Chloe Rafferty (Essendon Maribyrnong Park)
Rafferty was a star with both bat and ball on the weekend in her side’s crucial win over Ringwood. Firstly, although she was expensive with the ball she still took 4/65 off her 10 overs. Then with the bat she made 46 to help guide her side to the win.
5. Jessie Hulett (Plenty Valley)
We finally have a Bat making the Team of the Week. Despite her side suffering yet another loss, Hulett was the star with the bat, making a handy 44 to try and keep her side in the match.
6. Sophie Strickland (Dandenong)
Strickland top scored for her side in their loss to Carlton on the weekend, making 44.
7. Lara Shannon (Box Hill) (Wicketkeeper)
Shannon had a stellar performance behind the stumps in her side’s crucial win over Plenty Valley. In the win she took a catch, as well as registered an assisted runout and a stumping.
8. Rhys McKenna (Prahran)
Prahran kept Melbourne to one of their lowest scores of the season on the weekend, and McKenna was a big part of that achievement. She took 5/26 off her 8.1 overs, which included one maiden.
9. Holly Spencer (Box Hill)
The Mustangs’ vice captain had another great innings with the ball, taking 3/10 off her five overs. This also included one maiden over.
10. Ella Hayward (Melbourne)
Hayward was a star with the ball for the Dees on the weekend. She took 3/16 off her nine overs in the win over Prahran, which included a whopping three maidens.
11. Erika Quinn (Melbourne)
Quinn was the other leading wicket taker for the Dees on the weekend. She took 3/17 off her eight overs, and much like Hayward she also bowled an impressive three maidens.
