Blues shine, Bombers rise in Team of the Week

THE penultimate round of the 2021/22 Victorian Women’s Premier Firsts season saw some amazing individual performances, and lots of wickets taken. Carlton, EMP and Prahran all have two players in the Team of the Week this week.

1. Bhavisha Devchand (Ringwood)

Devchand continued her stellar season, making plenty of runs again on the weekend. In her side’s win over the hapless Plenty Valley, she scored 77.

2. Paris Bowdler (Prahran)

Bowdler had another great innings with the bat on the weekend, this time against Carlton. She made another half century, this time making 57.

3. Zoe Griffiths (Box Hill)

The Box Hill skipper was a shining light as the rest of her teammates failed around her. She made 79 not out in her side’s win, but without her score, things could have been very different for the Mustangs.

4. Nipuni Hansika (Carlton)

Hansika is back in the Team of the Week after making the teams regularly earlier this season. Against Prahran on the weekend, she made 55 in her side’s win.

5. Nicole Faltum (Dandenong) (Wicketkeeper)

The Victorian skipper was on the ball in her side’s loss to EMP, taking two catches and assisting in two run outs.

6. Cailin Green (Carlton)

Normally more known for her batting, Green was absolutely on fire with the ball on the weekend against Prahran. Against the True Blues, she took 5/40 off her 10 overs, which included one maiden.

7. Ella Hayward (Melbourne)

Although she did not take the most wickets in the competition on the weekend, Hayward’s figures were still remarkable. Off 10 overs, she bowled a whopping six maidens, and took 3/7.

8. Matilda Pendergast (Prahran)

In her first match in the First XI competition this season, Pendergast showed why she belongs at this level. Off her eight and a half overs, she took 4/27.

9. Kimberley Garth (Dandenong)

The Victorian and Dandenong star had another stellar innings with the ball. In her side’s loss to the Bombers, she took 4/10 off 8.5 overs, which did include three maidens.

10. Samantha Bates (EMP)

The Victorian star had another stellar innings with the ball, and almost had the most economical figures for the weekend. In 10 overs, she bowled four maidens and took 3/9.

11. Milly Illingworth (EMP)

Alongside Bates, Illingworth was a star with the ball on the weekend for the Bombers. She took 3/32 off her 10 overs, which included one maiden.
