Change of format does not bring change of fortunes in the Caribbean

THEY may have changed formats, but that did not improve things for the West Indies as they lost to England again, this time by eight wickets.

Batting first, the West Indies did not make things any easier for themselves, posting a very unintimidating target of 7/105 from their 20 overs.

After losing their first wicket in the second over, it was a sign of things to come as the hosts never managed a partnership of more than about 20 runs.

The extras count of 13 (which included a whopping eight leg byes) not only outscored skipper Hayley Matthews (7), but it outscored five of her team mates, and was equal with another.

The only two to clearly outscore the extras tally were Rashada Williams (23) and Chinelle Henry (21 not out).

Meanwhile for the English, Lauren Bell was the pick of the bowlers with 3/26 from her four overs. Katherine Brunt, Nat Sciver and all picked up Heather Knight a wicket each.

In stark contrast to the West Indies’ innings, although the English lost two wickets in their chase, their partnerships were double that of anything the opposition managed to muster.

The visitors only needed 12 overs and two thirds of a 13th to get the job done, and only lost two wickets in the process.

Danni Wyatt was the pick of the English batters, smashing 59 not out to be the back bone of the English chase. This included seven fours and two sixes in her knock.

Both of the English wickets were run outs, so all West Indies bowlers finished with no wickets to their name.

The series continues on Thursday morning Australian time.
