TONIGHT is the big one. The WBBL09 Final.

After an enthralling season, only two teams are left standing – the Adelaide Strikers and the Brisbane Heat. Their uniforms may both be shades of blue, but no one is sure to be left feeling blue by the final they are sure to give fans tonight.

These teams are no strangers to the WBBL Final, having made the big dance previously three times and two times respectively. This is also not the first time these two sides have clashed in a WBBL Final.

Back in WBBL05, these two sides were the last two sides, and it was the Brisbane Heat who won that day by six wickets. They may no longer have their top scorer (Beth Mooney) or their wicket taker (Georgia Prestwidge) from that day in their side anymore, but the Strikers still have theirs (Amanda-Jade Wellington and Tahlia McGrath).

Adelaide come into this final off the back of a minor premiership and a week off, while Brisbane fought hard through two finals to make it to tonight’s match. Both of these teams have had their ups and downs this season, but have both still been two of the most consistently top sides for the season.

Adelaide has not really relied on overseas talent this season to get this far – Laura Wolvaardt being the exemption – but has plenty of experienced Australian heads that have powered them to back-to-back finals berths.

That includes their Captain McGrath, opener Katie Mack – who is currently sixth on the most runs leaderboard for this season – and star bowlers Darcie Brown and Wellington, who are the top two most economical bowlers this season at the moment.

The Strikers come up against a Heat side tonight in a similar position in terms of Australian talent, but have utilised their internationals more than the Strikers have.

A good start at the top of the innings from Grace Harris will be crucial to Brisbane’s success tonight, then their strong mainly spin attack of the likes of Jess Jonassen and Amelia Kerr will be looking to be tight and economical with ball in hand.

The Heat will also be looking for strong batting performances from the likes of Georgia Redmayne and Mignon du Preez, with the former in particular really coming in leaps and bounds in the past few games and starting to form a really strong opening combination with Harris.

The WBBL09 Final is set to take place at Adelaide Oval tonight, with the first ball set to be bowled at 6:40pm local time (7:10pm AEDT). Fans can watch on Channel 7, Foxtel or Kayo, or listen via ABC Radio.
