THE 2022 Australian Netball Championship (ANC) is just around the corner, and after a Covid induced two year hiatus the redesigned national second tier competition is back. 10 teams from across the country will be facing off in Traralgon later this month for the title.

In preparation for the tournament, we will preview each of the 10 teams that will be competing at this year’s tournament. Next up in the preview series are the Collingwood Magpies.

As the name may suggest, Collingwood is tied to the Suncorp Super Netball club of the same name and replaces the old Tasmanian Magpies side who used to play in the ANL.

Because they are tied to the Super Netball club, fans of the SSN Pies will recognise many of the faces taking the court for the Magpies at these championships. This is because a number of them are either Collingwood training partners or current or former members of the Collingwood squad.

Former SSN Magpie Maggie Lind highlights that group with current ties to the SSN team, including Montana Holmes, Zoe Davies, Casey Adamson and sisters Nyah and Sienna Allen (with Sienna’s participation subject to fitness).

In addition to this group there are number of stars from the Victorian Netball League who have been rewarded for stellar seasons with selection in the Magpies side. This includes Geelong midcourter Vanessa Augustini, Melbourne Uni defender Ramayer Gourley, Peninsula pair Gabrielle Dwyer and Olivia Wilkinson and City West shooters Jane Cook and Uneeq Palavi.

In another sign of the calibre of the members of this Collingwood squad, six of them are set to square off tonight in the VNL Grand Final – Lind, Holmes, Davies, Augustini, Cook and Palavi.
