THE 2022 Australian Netball Championship (ANC) is just around the corner, and after a Covid induced two-year hiatus, the redesigned national second tier competition is back. 10 teams from across the country will be facing off in Traralgon next week for the title.
In preparation for the tournament, we are going to preview each of the 10 teams that will be competing at this year’s tournament. Next up is the Vic Fury.
The Fury are the second of the Victorian sides competing at these ANCs, and are were actually the final ANL Champions after taking out the 2019 title. They have put together quite the star studded squad for these Championships.
Firstly, two members of the Melbourne Vixens’ 2023 squad will suit up for the Fury at these Championships – defender Olivia Lewis and midcourter Hannah Mundy – who will both be keen to show they deserve more game time in 2023.
Secondly, all six of the Vixens’ training partners will be part of the Fury side for these Championships – shooters Emily Andrew and Ruby Barkmeyer, defenders Maggie Caris and Gabby Coffey and midcourters Jordan Cransberg and Sharni Lambden.
Fans of the AFLW will recognise the name Maggie Caris, because that is the same Maggie Caris who is on Melbourne’s list in the AFLW, so she has certainly had a busy last few months juggling both sports.
There is one member of this squad who is not based in Australia anymore but will still be very familiar to Australian fans. Former Vixen Tayla Honey now plies her trade in London at the Pulse but is returning home for these Championships.
That just leaves the remaining three members who do not fall into any of the previous categories, but have all had stellar seasons in the Victorian Netball League. They are Geelong defender Tori Honner, Melbourne Uni shooter Claudia Mawson and Casey shooter Emma Ryde.
