TWO rounds are down in the 2022 Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) season, and already a number of players have stood up for their respective teams. In today’s stats wrap, we take a look at some of the more dominant individual statistical performances.

Layla Guscoth (Team Bath)

The England Roses defender had a typical start to the 2022 season, which is credit to the high esteem in which she is held. Across the two games, Guscoth amassed more intercepts (12) and turnovers (17) than any other player. She also finished equal second in deflections with seven.

Funmi Fadoju (London Pulse)

One of the more active defenders over the weekend, Fadoju won Player of the Match during the Pulse’s Round 2 win, and picked up eight more deflections than any other player. Whilst a host of players managed seven in the opening couple of games, Fadoju totalled 15. She also recorded the equal second most intercepts with eight.

Ine-Mari Venter (Saracens Mavericks)

The South African shooter picked up where she left off from her Quad Series performance in the Mavericks’ goal circle. Venter came close to notching up triple digits in just two games, averaging 48.5 goals per match on her way to an impressive 97-goal tally. She sits 13 clear of her nearest rival.

Sasha Corbin (Saracens Mavericks)

One of the key reasons Venter was able to get so many opportunities was through the Mavericks’ midcourt. Corbin was a key part of that, able to produce 41 feeds in her opening two games. A renowned passer of the ball, she proved crucial across the first couple of matches to help lead the Mavericks to back-to-back wins.

Shaquanda Greene-Noel (Celtic Dragons)

Though the Dragons did not experience the same sucess that the other teams had, one of the shining lights was circle defender Greene-Noel. She recorded seven intercepts (third), seven deflections (equal second) and 10 turnovers (equal fourth) in a strong couple of opening performances.

Eleanor Cardwell (Manchester Thunder)

Though down in fifth overall for goals thus far, the combination Cardwell has shared with teammate Joyce Mvula has been critical in the Thunder amassing 149 goals at 74.5 per match. Cardwell was the top-ranked goal attack with the 57 individual goals, and the pairing combined for 139 of the Thunder’s 149.

Millie Sanders (Manchester Thunder)

In a stacked side brimming with international talent, it was great to see such a young star grab her opportunity in the win against Seven Stars. The 20-year-old was outstanding, picking up Player of the Match and teaming up well with the experienced Kerry Almond, recording more defensive rebounds (four) and turnovers (six) than anyone else on the court.
