Big wins the order of the day at the ANC

THERE was a common theme amongst the winners on day two of the Australian Netball Championships, with all four winners recording double-digit winning margins.

Vic Fury (74) defeated Tasmania Wild (45)

After a day one loss, the Vic Fury got their first win of the 2023 tournament on the board with a big win over Tasmania. The Fury were on from the get-go, taking a 10-goal lead into the first change and never really looking back.

Zara Walters (33 feeds, 20 assists) again starred for the Fury, while Sussu Liai (four gains, three intercepts, three deflections) also starred. Meanwhile for Tasmania Shelby Miller (20 feeds, 12 assists) and Ashlea Mawer (25 goals from 27 attempts, nine feeds, five assists) were among the Wild’s best.

Collingwood (61) defeated Sunshine Coast Lightning Bolts (49)

Collingwood made it two from two with a solid win over the Lightning Bolts. It was all set up with a big first quarter from the Magpies, and despite the Lightning Bolts winning the second quarter and drawing the last, that strong start and a solid third quarter from the Magpies made the difference.

Olivia Wilkinson (52 goals from 55 attempts) had a huge game in attack for Collingwood, as did Casey Adamson (35 feeds, 22 assists, five gains, two intercepts, two gains) in midcourt. Meanwhile for the Lightning Bolts Ash Ervin (11 deflections, eight gains, four rebounds, three intercepts) starred in defence, while Maddie Hinchliffe (26 feeds, 17 assists) had a solid game in mid court.

Adelaide Thunderbirds Futures (78) defeated Capital Darters (35)

The Thunderbirds also made it two from two with a huge win over the Capital Darters.

The South Australians were on from the get-go, as the Capitals’ scoring continued to drop off as the game progressed. Lucy Denton (39 feeds, 26 assists) and Molly Watson (eight gains, six intercepts, three deflections) both starred for Adelaide, while Caitlin Brady (seven deflections, four gains) battled hard for the Darters.

West Coast Fever Futures (78) defeated Territory Storm (26)

The Fever Futures also joined in on the big margin party, comfortably downing the Territory Storm. The Storm were never really in the match as the Fever Futures really stamped their authority from the get go, highlighted by a 23 goal to five second term.

Ella Taylor (nine gains, five intercepts, four deflections, two rebounds) and Caitlyn Brown (seven gains, five rebounds, two intercepts) were among many who starred for the Fever. Meanwhile for the Storm Jasmyn Hewett (10 deflections, four gains, one intercept) battled hard in defence.
