Games of the Weekend | April 26-29
ANZ PREMIERSHIP
MATCH OF THE ROUND
Northern Mystics vs Mainland Tactix
Monday at 7:30pm
The Trusts Arena, Auckland
The weekend’s ANZ Premiership action concludes with a top of the table epic.
The Tactix and Mystics are off to a strong start to begin this season, but one of their undefeated starts will come to an end on Monday.
One area of the court that should be particularly interesting to watch is the Mystics’ attack end. Grace Nweke has unsurprisingly had a brilliant start to the season, and alongside her partner in crime Elisapeta Toeava will be looking to continue that on Monday night. However, a couple of Silver Ferns in Jane Watson and Karin Burger will be tough competition and not be an easy pair to get around for the Mystics stars.
OTHER FIXTURES
Northern Stars vs. WBOP Magic | Saturday, 4pm @ Pulman Arena, Auckland
Central Pulse vs Southern Steel | Sunday, 4pm @ TSB Arena, Wellington
NETBALL SUPERLEAGUE
MATCH OF THE ROUND
Severn Stars vs London Pulse
Friday at 7:30pm
University of Worcester Arena
Another top four clash in the Netball Superleague is set to kick off this weekend’s action.
Although the Stars have been maintaining their position in the top four for a while now, the middle part of this season has been a bit wobbly for them, so a return to consistence dominance will be top of their to do list. They come up against the reigning runners up, who will provide sturdy resistance in their quest.
The partnership between Olivia Tchine and Berri Neil has really grown this year, but will not have the easiest of times tonight as they have to tackle Jo Trip and her crew of defenders who have also really impressed this season.
OTHER FIXTURES
Cardiff Dragons vs Strathclyde Sirens | Friday, 7pm @ House of Sport, Cardiff
Saracens Mavericks vs Team Bath | Saturday, 4pm @ Hertfordshire Sports Village
Surrey Storm vs. Manchester Thunder | Saturday, 6pm @ Surrey Sports Park
Leeds Rhinos vs. Loughborough Lightning | Sunday, 4pm @ First Direct Arena
SUNCORP SUPER NETBALL
MATCH OF THE ROUND
Sunshine Coast Lightning vs. Adelaide Thunderbirds
Saturday at 5pm
UniSC Arena
After winning in Round 1, both these sides came back to Earth a little last weekend, so come into this weekend with a point to prove. Are they truly among the contenders this season? They have both had a number of changes in the offseason, so whose changes are more influential?
The match up of the entire game has to be Liz Watson against Latanya Wilson. The Australian Diamonds’ captain against the high flying Jamaican is sure to be hard fought and entertaining.
If Wilson can shut down Watson, will that make Matilda Garrett and Shamera Sterling-Humphrey’s night easier because Cara Koenen and Steph Fretwell will not have much ball fed to them? Time will tell.
