Gold Coast Titans to enter netball team in Sapphire Series

OVER the weekend it was announced that National Rugby League (NRL) club, Gold Coast Titans have applied for a license to enter a team in the Sapphire Series.

The Sapphire Series is one tier below the Suncorp Super Netball competition, so the aim is for the Titans’ new team is to start there, climb the ranks and eventually join the Suncorp Super Netball League sometime in the future.

It is understood that the club will officially announce its plans this week. Among the announcements is set to be who their inaugural netball coach will be.

This comes on the back of Netball Tasmania putting in an application for a team for next season. Gold Coast would not be the first multi-code club in the world nor in Australia. In Australia alone, the likes of Melbourne Storm in the NRL, and AFL clubs Collingwood and GWS all have clubs in the Suncorp Super Netball.

The 2022 Suncorp Super Netball season is set to commence on March 26, and will finish before the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
