Round 12 set to shake things up

Round 12 in the Suncorp Super Netball is an important one for more than one reason.

On the court, it’s the third last round of the season, and with the top four very much unconfirmed, there is still plenty up for grabs for all the sides.

Off the court, it is the first of two back to back First Nations Rounds, so watch out for the various ways that the clubs will recognise the contributions of First Nations people across both this weekend and next.

Collingwood vs NSW
Saturday at 6pm AEST
John Cain Arena

This fifth versus eighth match has so much riding on it for both sides.

Neither side would have been happy with their performances last week, so will be keen to rectify that at John Cain Arena on Saturday night. Particularly Collingwood, who really let a good chance for an important win slip away from them last week against Adelaide.

Both teams have got shooters that can really do some damage on the scoreboard and some excellent midfielders, so expect an entertaining match for neutrals and supporters alike.

West Coast vs Queensland
Saturday at 6pm AWST
RAC Arena

This weekend’s match could potentially be season defining for both sides.

For the Fever, they are one win away from securing their place in the finals, while the Firebirds have to win to keep their season alive.

It is always tough for visiting teams to venture to RAC Arena and get the win, but this season has proven that it is doable.

West Coast will go into the match as favourites, but if this season has taught us anything it is that favouritism means nothing.

One other factor that will work in Queensland’s factor is the two key players West Coast will be missing for the match. Jessica Anstiss is still out, plus Verity Simmons is out this week too.

Queensland also gain Jemma Mi Mi back this week too, which is a handy inclusion.

Melbourne vs Sunshine Coast
Sunday at 2pm AEST
John Cain Arena

Now this one is a fascinating clash for many reasons.

One, because on paper it looks like it should be a fairly comfortable Vixen win, but that was also the case last time around and the Lightning came out and handed the Vixens their first loss of the season.

Two, because the Lightning have a lot more riding on the match then the Vixens do. The Vixens cannot drop out of the top four, but do still need to keep winning in order to play in the major semi final.

For the Lightning however, their season is on the line. Lose, and their season is just about done.

GIANTS vs Adelaide
Sunday at 4pm AEST
Ken Rosewall Arena

This third versus fourth is sure to be an entertaining one. With both teams keen on the win to maintain their place in the top four and build a gap on the chasing pack.

Last time around it was a pretty comfortable win to the Thunderbirds, so will history repeat itself again or will the GIANTS get the win at home?

The battle between Shamera Sterling and Jo Harten will be one to watch on Sunday afternoon. One of the premier goalers versus arguably the intercept Queen, certainly should not be missed.

Also, Adelaide got the win last week without three of their key stars last week, so how much more daunting is it going to be coming up against them this week with all three of them returning to the game day squad?
