Silver Ferns seal series with hard fought win

THE New Zealand Silver Ferns have won the Taini Jamison Trophy, downing the English Roses by seven goals in the final Test Match of the series.

In a match full of swinging momentums, it was the Silver Ferns who ultimately prevailed.

The first quarter saw both sides took their chances in differing circumstances, it was the Roses who took a slight lead into the first change after pulling ahead late.

This lead did not last too long though as the Silver Ferns went on a game high five goal run early in the second to wrestle back control of the match and ultimately take a three-goal lead into the main break.

The Roses then came out after half time and kept the game tight, and although they won the third quarter the Silver Ferns still held the lead heading into the last term.

This is where the Silver Ferns really pulled away again, winning the final quarter to ultimately take the game and the series.

It was a game of high accuracy from the shooters, with the lowest shooting percentage being the goal attacks, with both goal shooters shooting at 90 percent and higher.

It was also a game of very few substitutions, with the Silver Ferns not making any, and only two of England’s bench made it onto the court.

For the Silver Ferns Amelia Walmsley certainly did her fair share of the shooting, finishing with the highest figure of both number of goals and shooting percentage. Phoenix Karaka (four gains, three intercepts) also had a strong game in defence, as did Mila Reuelu-Buchanan (32 feeds, 21 assists) in mid court.

Meanwhile for the visitors Vicki Oyesola (three gains, three rebounds, two deflections) shone in defence, as did Sasha Glasgow in attack and Hannah Joseph (22 feeds, nine assists) in midcourt.
