Super Netball Preview Round 3 – Packed week begins
THIS weekend’s action in the Suncorp Super Netball competition starts a big week for all teams, where they will all play three games in the space of just a few days.
For the moment though, let us take a look at what is in store for Round 3 of the competition.
Melbourne Vixens vs GIANTS Netball
Saturday at 5pm AEST
John Cain Arena
The Vixens have had a ripping start to this season, and will be looking to certainly continue that momentum this weekend.
The GIANTS however are coming off a tough loss to Adelaide, but they were undermanned in that loss. They do however gain all the players they lost to Covid back this week, which will make things a lot easier for them this week.
And they are going to need it, coming up against a Vixens side in ripping form and looking much more like the side that won the flag two years ago.
The Vixens however will need to keep an eye on Jo Harten, who almost single handily kept her side in the match last week.
NSW Swifts vs Collingwood Magpies
Saturday at 7pm AEST
Ken Rosewall Arena
The battle of two winless sides, one will come away with their first win of the season (unless it’s a draw!).
The NSW Swifts have had two frustrating losses so far this season, by very small margins and will certainly be looking to bounce back sooner rather then later and get their premiership defence back on track.
The Magpies on the other hand are coming off a tough match against the Fever, where they matched them for much of the match but the Fever were ultimately too strong.
The Swifts do welcome back Paige Hadley this week, who’s experience will come in very handy this week against a side stacked with a lot of international level talent.
Queensland Firebirds vs West Coast Fever
Sunday at 2pm AEST
Nissan Arena
Two of the highest scoring sides so far this season will do battle on Sunday afternoon as the Firebirds take on the Fever.
Both of these sides hold the record for the highest score in a game – 82 – so if this is a high scoring clash do not be surprised.
The goal shooters for both sides are in ripping form this season and will be crucial to the success of their respective sides this weekend.
Donnell Wallam is only in her first season at this level, but by the way she is playing you could be forgiven for thinking she has been playing for much longer.
Jhaniele Fowler on the other hand is in ripping form for the Fever. She has shot over 100 goals already and it is only a fortnight into this season, and she has only missed five shots all season.
Adelaide Thunderbirds vs Sunshine Coast Lightning
Sunday at 3:30pm ACST
Netball SA Stadium
Both of these sides have had quite contrasting starts to their seasons.
The Thunderbirds are undefeated and have been playing some very nice netball on the way to those two wins.
The Lightning however have had two very hard losses to their season, so will be keen to get their season going this weekend.
The Lightning do gain Steph Wood back this week, who was sorely missed in their loss to the Firebirds last week.
They will certainly need her this week, to keep up with an Adelaide forward pair of Lenize Potgieter and Tippah Dwan who have been on song so far this season.
