Vic M-League 2019: Men’s Premier Division preview – Round 10

ROUND 10 of Men’s Premier Division is set to be another interesting one, with the Round 3 reverse fixtures featuring two close matches and two blowout results. Round 3 was plagued with missing stars thanks to the New Zealand Men’s Nationals, meaning this is realistically the first time these teams will play each other at full strength.

With a number of big matches up again this week, every side is set to be put through their paces. While these matches could go either way, it will be a real test for some sides as they take on their early season foes once more. DDNA put in the hard yards to get their first win of the season against Pasifika Sharks who will no doubt look to go one better this week with two solid wins on the board in recent weeks, while Sirens Netball look to back up their impressive form with another win over winless Ariels and Southern Seahawks will hope to apply pressure to St Therese to get a much-needed win on the board.

One of the bigger matches of the round pits table-topping Geelong Cougars against Melbourne City Blackhawks, a side which has remained mostly under the radar despite sitting in the top four consistently all season. While the Cougars well and truly slaughtered the Blackhawks last time they met with an impressive 31-goal margin, the Blackhawks were one of the more affected sides by the New Zealand Men’s Nationals, missing a number of key players. With plenty of defenders on the court regular circle defender Tim Marshall played out most of the match in goals, pairing fairly well with Daniel Cooke but to no avail with the impressive leap and defensive pressure of Geelong’s Alastair Punshon. Expect an interesting contest between Blackhawks’ Joel Gosbell and Cougars’ Jed Christian, while Gerard Murphy and Matthew Doyle can both have plenty of impact through a range of positions for their respective sides when required. The Blackhawks will be well and truly ready to push the Cougars this time around.
