VIC M-League 2019: Men’s Premier Division preview – Round 5

WITH four rounds under their belts, all eight Men’s Premier Division sides are now looking fully settled. Only one side still sits without a win on the board, and while each side is finding some good form in patches, Geelong Cougars are well and truly emerging as the team to beat once more with skill and flair to boot. Geelong are closely trailed by St Therese and Sirens Netball, with Melbourne City Blackhawks and Pasifika Sharks completing the top five with two wins apiece.

Men’s Premier Division – Round 5
25/9/19

With a number of big games this week including a top four battle between Sirens and Melbourne City Blackhawks, all eyes will go to a big matchup between St Therese and Pasifika Sharks. While the Sharks sit in fifth with two wins from four matches, they have sorely missed tall timber Junior Levi in recent weeks, unable to find ease of access into the goal circle despite the work rate of Cameron Powell in the circle. The Sharks’ speed of ball movement and ability to gain possession of the loose ball is second to none, making this match achievable if the side is in peak form against highly talented St Therese in second. Despite having to forge new connections this season, the Saints have rocketed up the ladder with only one loss from four matches, going down by only four goals to Geelong last week without regular goal attack Corey Nexhip. If Levi takes the court, it will be down to the Saints’ midcourt to get the job done. Saints speedster Riley Richardson and experienced Guy Keane make for a compelling combination through the middle, especially pitted against Zachary Nathan and Brandon D’Monte for the Sharks who have perfected their feeds into the circle. The Sharks will want to come into this round with fresh legs after a big loss last week, making this a vital battle to ensure they keep in touch with the top half of the ladder. In other games, Southern Seahawks in sixth take on Geelong Cougars while the Ariels will hope for their first Premier Division victory when they take on DDNA who sit on one victory from their four matches.
