Round 8 will see a number of big matches play out with rematches across the board echoing Round 1. Geelong will look to bounce back this week with a match against bottom-ranked Ariels, bringing in plenty of confidence having defeated the side by 25 goals last time they met, while DDNA take on St Therese will look to overcome a recent rough patch with a win over DDNA set to edge them ever closer to the top two. Meanwhile, Southern Seahawks will take on Melbourne City Blackhawks with revenge on the table after going down by 17 goals back in Round 1.
The key match of the round will see Sirens Netball take on Pasifika Sharks, with the opening round eight-goal loss the Sirens’ only defeat for the season. Sirens have been in impressive form in their inaugural season, defeating St Therese and Geelong in consecutive weeks, so are sure to come into this match with plenty of confidence despite their Round 1 loss to the Sharks. For the Sharks sitting just out of the top four on three wins and four losses, a victory again this week after a one-goal loss last week could see the side slip back into the top four or at least put the side in a better position to jump ahead in the coming weeks. This match will be a battle of the goalers, with Brodie Roberts and Josh Smith lining up at one end while Junior Levi and Cameron Powell will take the court in opposition. With accuracy and volume to boot at both ends, both sides are sure to amp up defensively with plenty of talent in Sirens’ Will Jamieson and Sharks’ Asa Alefaio, who both have the ability to create turnovers and force the ball back to attack.
