VIC M-League 2019: Men’s Premier Division wrap – Round 4
DESPITE two close matches, one 16-goal margin and one massive blowout, Round 4 of Men’s Premier Division saw only a minor shakeup of the ladder, with fourth through to seventh rotating ladder positions once again. Geelong Cougars still sit undefeated in top spot with St Therese hot on their tail, continuing their dominant form with a four goal see-sawing and physical victory over the Saints. Sirens Netball in third were put through their paces, taking on a persistent DDNA in search of their second win, prevailing by six goals despite a valiant DDNA comeback, while Southern Seahawks got their first win on the board against cellar dwellers, Ariels, with a stellar 26-goal first half setting up the victory.
Meanwhile, the Melbourne City Blackhawks got a massive win over Pasifika Sharks, with the Sharks undermanned and the Blackhawks running rampant to win by a whopping 41 goals. The Sharks missed tall timber Junior Levi once again, while also playing out the match without a wing defence, allowing plenty of easy ball to the Blackhawks front-end. Jamie Maher was left to his own devices in wing attack, pairing well with versatile attacker Matt Doyle, who rotated through centre and goal attack. The real question for this match is about the consistency of the Sharks when they do not have their key cog at the post. Cam Powell (28 goals) was solid as ever in goals without Levi, however without the ease of feed into the towering goaler and his vertical leap, Powell was unable to have the desired effect on the game. Feeders Brandon D’Monte and Zachary Nathan were unable to put the ball past Tim Marshall and Simon Cartwright in defence. The real story of the match was Blackhawks’ goal shooter Daniel Cooke who starred with 47 goals alone, fed with ease as the Sharks struggled to keep up with his footwork and timing, working impeccably with Doyle (24 goals) and Lachlan Deane (11 goals).

DDNA (51) defeated by Sirens (57)
