Mixed Premier Division – Round 3
11/9/19
8:20pm, 9:40pm
With the division once again split across two time slots, Round 3 will see bottom of the ladder NNE Vipers take on Parkville Panthers at 8:20 prior to the other three matches at the later fixture. In other games, seventh and eighth listed St Therese and DDNA will play the other and Melbourne City Blackhawks in sixth will be tested against fifth ranked Geelong Cougars. Meanwhile, Eastside Sonics have the bye this week.
Arguably the most intriguing match this round will take place between Pasifika Sharks and Valley Wolves, with the two sitting in second and third on the ladder but only one win apiece so far after the Sharks went down to Geelong in Round 1, while the Wolves had a bye in the opening round. The Sharks have the talent and flair to get the job done as well as a dominant fixture at the goal post in Junior Levi, aided in attack by the highly accurate and speedy Rebecca Hicks, and fed plenty of the ball by former New Zealand player Poni Smith with speed and footwork to boot. For the Wolves, Victorian Netball League (VNL) goal attack Nat Billings has the ability to shoot from anywhere in the circle thanks to her split and speedy release of the ball, while Alastair Punshon can utilise his impressive vertical leap in both the defensive and attacking circles, as he proved last round rotating through both goal shooter and goal keeper depending on what the side required. Valley Wolves have only played the one match so far this season, meaning this game could be a big indicator of how their season could go especially after only just scraping a win last round.
