Youth the tale of the 24/25 Diamonds Squad
THE Australian Diamonds Squad for 2024/25 has been revealed, with a youthful injection the standout feature.
Unlike last year’s squad, there are a number of new faces in this year’s squad.
After all impressing in the Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) season, Ash Ervin, Georgie Horjus and Hannah Mundy have all been added to the program. The announcement also includes two training camp invitees, with Lucy Austin and Emily Mannix set to join the squad at all training camps in the next 12 months.
The replace retired pair Ash Brazill and Steph Fretwell, as well as Ruby Bakewell-Doran and Maddy Proud.
Speaking on the announcement, Diamonds’ coach Stacey Marinkovich said she wanted the side to go to another level despite sustained success on the international stage.
“We know that we need to raise the bar and evolve if we are to continue to contribute to the Sisters in Arms legacy of success,” she said.
“This squad will build towards a home Netball World Cup in 2027, which will be a pivotal moment for our sport both in Australia and internationally.
“We’ve been incredibly impressed with the standard at the Suncorp Super Netball level this year, and with the development coming through Netball Australia’s pathway programs including Fast5.”
Of the squad, Marinkovich said the combination of youth and experience will make for a great show, with chances for others to be added to the squad throughout the rest of the 2024 SSN season.
“We’re really excited about this squad, the blend of experience and youth and the individual skillsets that the athletes bring. This dynamic will enable the Origin Australian Diamonds to evolve, grow, and take on the challenges of international netball.”
“We will continue to closely observe the remainder of the Suncorp Super Netball season with scope to add to our invitee athletes.”
