KYLE Edmund caused the upset of day five at the ATP Tour’s Miami Open fantasy tennis tournament by knocking out 12th seed, Diego Schwartzman. The Brit competitor won 6-3 6-4 in an hour and 36 minutes against his Argentinian opponent, moving through to face seventh seed Frenchman, Gael Monfils in the Round of 16.

Monfils made his way through to the fourth round with a come-from-behind victory against Serbian 28th seed, Filip Krajinovic. Monfils won 3-6 6-1 6-2 in an hour and 57 minutes, joining Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the Round of 16. The unseeded Australian Open finalist is on the comeback from injury and he was able to get through to take on second seed Rafael Nadal after knocking off fellow unseeded opponent, Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas. The match lasted just 68 minutes as Tsonga won 6-0 6-3 including the first nine games of the match.

Nadal had a real fight on his hands, forced to the limit against Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik and had to fight back from a 2-5 deficit in the second set tiebreaker to win that set, level the match and then run away with victory in the last set. He won 4-6 7-6 6-1 to set up the blockbuster Round of 16 contest with Tsonga. Looking at the other quarter of the board, 11th seed Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut and 27th seed Australian Alex de Minaur will lock horns in the Round of 16 after winning their respective matches.

Bautista Agut defeated 24th seed Pole, Hubert Hurkacz in a come-from-behind three-set win 1-6 6-3 6-2, while de Minaur had a similar journey to the fourth round with a 2-6 6-3 6-2 win over Frenchman, Gilles Simon. The final Round of 16 match pits two Canadian against each other with up-and-coming talent, Denis Shapovalov taking on Vasek Pospisil. Shapovalov downed Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka 7-6 6-3, while Pospisil knocked out 31st seed Daniel Evans.

Among tomorrow’s top clashes in the Round of 32 are ninth seed David Goffin going up against 19th seed Grigor Dimitov, and an all-wildcard match between J.J. Wolf and Andy Murray.
