2020 Libema Open fantasy tennis: Riske goes back-to-back, Federer wins first grass of season

ALISON Riske has done it again, going back-to-back at s’Hertogenbosch and winning the 2020 Libema Open fantasy tennis tournament for the second year straight. At the ATP tournament, many were unsurprised to see Roger Federer take out the title, and while it was his first here he was relentless and lived up to his grass court hype once more.

The reigning champion, Riske certainly came in as the favourite but it could have gone either way with her opposition, Johanna Konta in stellar form heading into the tournament. While Riske has had some ups and downs over recent months, the American talent was more than capable in this scenario, disposing of Konta in less than 50 minutes for a 6-2 6-2 victory, making it her third title in the books. Konta put in a tough effort, winning the first two games of the first set, Riske was clinical and did not let the Brit get a look in, winning the first set with ease despite the slow start and continuing that form into the second, brimming with confidence.

Federer was dominant as ever against his Japanese opposition in Kei Nishikori. While Nishikori had been impressive here coming into the final, he was ultimately no match for Federer who was more than capable of the 6-2 6-4 victory, proving again that he is a force to be reckoned with on the court. A strong second set saw Nishikori fire up to really challenge and put the Swiss Master on the back foot, but an untimely couple of errors saw Federer take hold of the match to go from being down 3-4 to up 5-4 in a split second, taking out the match point with ease once he had the upper hand.

ATP FINAL RESULT:

[1] Roger Federer (SUI) defeated Kei Nishikori (JPN) 6-2 6-4

WTA FINAL RESULT:

[6] Alison Riske (USA) defeated [8] Johanna Konta (GBR) 6-2 6-2
