AT least one unseeded player will reach the Copa Colsanitas fantasy tennis tournament final after the remaining two seeds in the top half of the draw were knocked out in a day of thrilling results. Third seed, Alison Van Uytvanck and seventh seed, Fiona Ferro were both dismissed from the Bogota tournament after winning their respective first sets but falling away.

German, Andrea Petkovic was the victor over Van Uytvanck, taking two hours and 48 minutes to salute in an epic contest, 4-6 7-5 7-6. Despite dropping the first set in just under 50 minutes to the Belgian, the unseeded German did not lose the faith, picking up the slack and stepping up a notch to take an early break in the second, and when broken back proceeded to break again in the 10th game and hold serve to level the match. The third and final set went to a tiebreaker, and it was not until Petkovic won back to-back points at 6-6 that she was able to celebrate the win.

It was an equally tough match for Taiwan’s Su Wei Hsieh who had to overcome a first set loss to send Ferro packing. Hsieh won 5-7 6-4 6-4 in two hours and 34 minutes with a couple of breaks midway through the second and third sets crucial to the win after fading late in the first set. She now takes on Russian, Anastasia Potapova who won in easier circumstances, downing American qualifier and Mexican Open winner, Coco Vandeweghe.

Potapova won 6-2 6-4 in an hour and 20 minutes, booking her spot in the last eight with some inspired tennis on the clay courts. After knocking out number one seed, Marie Bouzkova in the opening round, Potapova made her way through to the last eight against the in-form Vandeweghe and ensured she lasted an extra couple match at least. The final day’s result was Slovakian Viktoria Kuzmova defeating German Laura Siegemund in a match that took more than three hours. In the end, Kuzmova won 7-5 6-7 7-6, saluting in the deciding tiebreak, 7-4 to move through and face her second consecutive German opponent in Petkovic.

Tomorrow’s quarter finals begin with Italian qualifier Elisabetta Cocciaretto taking on Frenchwoman, Alize Cornet and the all-seeded clash between Katerina Siniakova and Anna Blinkova. Then it will be Potapova and Hsieh locking horns followed by Kusmova and Petkovic in the final match of the day.
