2020 WTA Madrid Open fantasy tennis: Svitolina continues winning streak as Kvitova looks to collect fourth Madrid title

THE results are in, seeing Elina Svitolina and Petra Kvitova make it to the WTA Tour’s Madrid Open fantasy tennis final, after the two top talents were predicted to go well in our tournament preview.

Svitolina got out to a roaring start against unseeded Latvian, Jelena Ostapenko, pulling out to a stellar first set victory and dominating the contest with her cleanliness and attacking mentality, putting Ostapenko on the back foot early. But where Ostapenko struggled early on, she came back with a vengeance in the second to prove she had made the semis for a reason, forcing errors from Svitolina in the second to draw even in sets, 6-1 3-6. But Svitolina’s winning streak would continue, batting down a fired up Ostapenko to take back the third set and make her way into the final with a stellar 6-2 set to win the match.

Kvitova did not have as much of a challenge despite coming up against ninth seed Garbine Muguruza, with the Spaniard making yet another semi but falling short once more. Muguruza challenged Kvitova early, gaining ascendancy with a couple strong games to lead in the first before Kvitova stole the momentum away to win the first set 6-4. Kvitova maintained that pressure to start the second, seeing Muguruza struggle to keep up with the Czech talent and ultimately saw Kvitova contain the Spaniard to win in straight sets, 6-4 6-2.

Into her second straight final, Svitolina will look to beat Kvitova at her own game but will ultimately be the underdog in this contest despite being the higher seed, purely because of Kvitova’s winning ability her with three Madrid titles to her name already.

SEMI-FINALS RESULTS:

[3] Elina Svitolina (UKR) defeated Jelena Ostapenko (LAT) 6-1 3-6 6-2
[12] Petra Kvitova (CZE) defeated [9] Garbine Muguruza (ESP) 6-4 6-2
