2020 WTA Prague Open fantasy tennis: Svitolina reigns supreme for 15th title

ELINA Svitolina has added another string to her bow, snatching away the Prague Open fantasy tennis title from Czech talent Marketa Vondrousova. The three set battle was fitting for the tight final, see-sawing throughout as the pair grappled for momentum.

Vondrousova came out flying, putting on a show in the first set to slowly but surely whittle away at Svitolina’s patient play and force errors from the Ukrainian. But where Vondrousova was strong early, her downfall was in the second, failing to continue her strong form and hold up Svitolina when she got going. The pair continued to go toe-to-toe for the better part of an hour and a half. Svitolina’s strong finish to the second set put her in good stead to take some much needed consistency into the final set. While Vondrousova lifted her game once more to head to a tiebreaker, it was Svitolina who came out on top with the powerful Ukrainian holding serve and forcing critical errors from her Czech opposition to take the Prague Open title, 3-6 6-4 7-6.

This is Svitolina’s second 2020 title after winning at Monterrey back in March, taking her career singles title tally to 15, while Vondrousova will be ruing the missed opportunity to add to her tally.

FINAL RESULT:

[2] Elina Svitolina (UKR) defeated [6] Marketa Vondrousova (CZE) 3-6 6-4 7-6
