A MASSIVE Prague Open fantasy tennis final is set to commence tomorrow as sixth seed Marketa Vondrousova and Elina Svitolina get ready to lock horns after impressive wins in the semi-finals.

First seed Karolina Pliskova and fourth seed Petra Kvitova were both knocked out at the final hurdle, as their respective younger opposition outplayed them – though neither Czech talent let their competitors run away with an easy win as both matches went to three sets.

The 20-year-old Vondrousova had a solid outing when she took on Pliskova, using every ounce of her skill to force errors from the clinical Pliskova to eventually run out victor 6-3 2-6 6-4. Despite a mid-match slump which saw Pliskova get the better of her younger opponent, Vondrousova impressed with her court coverage, calmly going about her business and reigning supreme with a confident final set. Though Pliskova ultimately had the consistency coming into the third set, Vondrousova was cleaner and drove points home to win the match and head into the final.

Svitolina had a tougher time against Kvitova, with the Ukrainian’s slow start almost seeing the end of the road, dropping the first set and dropping the first two games of the second. But she did not let it get to her, turning the match on its head from there and only allowing the four more games from Kvitova as the tables turned. Svitolina may not have had the consistency early, but once she drove up that momentum she well and truly ran with it, making for the 1-6 6-2 6-4 victory.

With the two former Prague winners out of the way, Vondrousova and Svitolina will go head to head in the final with Svitolina ultimately the favourite with form in her favour though Vondrousova has more than proved she is up to the task.
