2020 WTA Rabat Open fantasy tennis: Pavlyuchenkova reigns supreme

IN a massive finish to the Rabat Open fantasy tennis tournament, Anatasia Pavlyuchenkova proved too strong in a tough three-setter against Greek talent, Maria Sakkari

The 28-year-old Pavlyuchenkova may have gotten off to a rocky start but was consistent in victory, defeating fifth seed Sakkari 3-6 6-3 6-4. While Sakkari started well it was not long before she allowed the Russian eighth seed to get the better of her, making uncharacteristic errors as she failed to capitalise off Pavlyuchenkova’s serve. Where Sakkari seemed to have much of the early momentum, Pavlyuchenkova was not about to concede victory after her stellar second set, coming from two games down in the third to take out the win, 3-6 6-3 6-4.

This is the second time Pavlyuchenkova has won the Rabat Open title, having reigned supreme in 2017. For Sakkari this is a disappointing loss, with the Greek competitor in excellent form throughout the competition but puts herself in good stead for the upcoming Roland Garros.

RABAT GRAND PRIX FINAL RESULT:

[8] Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) defeated [5] Maria Sakkari (GRE) 3-6 6-3 6-4
