2020 WTA Roland Garros fantasy tennis: Svitolina takes out maiden Grand Slam title

A STELLAR run from unseeded Carla Suarez Navarro was brought to a deafening halt in the 2020 Roland Garros fantasy tournament final, with Elina Svitolina stopping the Spaniard in her tracks to win her maiden Grand Slam title.

Svitolina impressed from beginning to end at the French Open, outlasting in three sets more often than not, and growing in confidence as she did so. It was all worth it for this win however, absolutely dominating the final contest against Suarez Navarro and blowing the Spaniard out of the water with her constant pressure, culminating in the phenomenal 6-3 6-0 final score.

While Suarez Navarro has impressed with her consistency and determination throughout the Roland Garros, her luck appeared to run out at the worst moment after leading for the first few games of the first set. Where she has used her experience to take control in other matches, second seed Svitolina was able to poke holes in her game plan to take out the first set before going back for more, obliterating Suarez Navarro in the second to run home champion.

This is Svitolina’s maiden Roland Garros title as well as her first Grand Slam victory, making it one to remember for the Ukrainian talent who brushed past unseeded trio of Tatjana Maria, Sorana Cirstea and Nina Stojanovic in the first three rounds and seeds Madison Keys (16th), Karolina Pliskova (tenth) and Kiki Bertens (13th) to make it to the final.

FINAL:

[2] Elina Svitolina (UKR) defeated Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP) 6-3 6-0
