2020 WTA Strasbourg Open fantasy tennis: Swiatek wins first title against reigning champion

YOUNG gun Iga Swiatek has burst onto the international circuit over the past year and with an inaugural title in her hands she is sure to rise in the rankings once more after defeating the reigning champion.

Swiatek impressed against fellow young talent Dayana Yastremska and was far too strong for the Ukrainian seventh seed who was taken to three sets yesterday and was on the back foot from the start today, eventually going down 6-3 6-1. Swiatek’s composure saw her play will above her years, using her stellar read of the play and attacking style to put Yastremska on the defensive from the get-go. While Yastremska showed some good signs throughout she ultimately could not compete with Swiatek who put on a show in the second set, on a roll and dominating for the 6-1 finish.

Swiatek has been working toward this title for some time, with the young talent building in form across the clay season and has peaked at the perfect time with the Roland Garros up next. While Yastremska will be frustrated at letting the title and chance of going back-to-back slip through her fingers, she is another who has found some good form recently and will be ready to put it to good use at the fantasy French Open.

STRASBOURG OPEN FINAL RESULT:

Iga Swiatek (POL) defeated [7] Dayana Yastremska (UKR) 6-3 6-1
