2020 WTA Volvo Car Open: Ash Barty wins clay title ahead of 2020 Roland Garros
ASH Barty has added another title to her collection with a stellar straight sets victory over Petra Kvitova in the WTA Volvo Car Open fantasy final.
The Australian world number one had her eye in from the very beginning, forcing errors from the Czech star and using her strong serves to rack up aces on her way a 6-4 first set win. Kvitova to her credit did not give up at any point though, continuously chipping away at Barty with her baseline drive but eventually dropping her serve to hand Barty the first set.
It was not quite as easy in the second set as the results project, with Kvitova fighting hard early to gain ascension over the crafty Aussie. But while Kvitova may have collected the first two games of the second set, Barty regained the upper hand to come from behind, not taking a backward glance as she dominated throughout the second half of the set to ensure the match did not come down to a third set. Eventually Kvitova’s luck ran out, seeing Barty run home with a solid 6-4 6-3 victory.
FINAL RESULT:
[1] Ash Barty (AUS) defeated [13] Petra Kvitova (CZE) 6-4 6-3
