2020 WTA Volvo Car Open: Predictable day on court for seeds
A MASSIVE quarter final draw saw three of the four seeds head into the semi-finals, with just fourth seed Karolina Pliskova knocked out of WTA Volvo Car Open fantasy contention.
Kiki Bertens was just too good against Pliskova, holding her ground and holding Pliskova to just the two sets without a tiebreaker. Sixth seed Bertens was impressive on the serve and ran away with the 6-4 6-4 victory in under two hours. Facing Bertens in the semi-final is another Czech in Petra Kvitova. The powerful left-hander had a shaky start against 25-year-old Yulia Putintseva, dropping the first set tiebreaker but dominating from then on winning eight straight games to win the match, 6-7 6-0 6-4.
The second semi-final match will take place between world number one Ash Barty and Dayana Yastremska with both players getting through with relative ease. Barty had a slow start thanks to a stellar first set effort from Kristina Mladenovic, but it quickly went down from there for the Frenchwoman, with Barty consolidating the second and third sets relatively comfortably. Yastremska was up against fellow unseeded Marketa Vondrousova but made relatively quick work of her, winning a tight first set before coming down hard in the second set to win 7-5 6-1.
