THE Quarter Finals continued at the Miami Open overnight, and on a day where a number of players had to retire hurt, there was also a massive upset as the sixth seed Casper Ruud knocked out the second seed Alexander Zverev, denying the German a chance at his first title of the season.

After Ruud won the first set, Zverev blitzed him in the second and took it to a third, which Ruud won 6-3 to ultimately win the match 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.

Both men served a respectable number of aces. Ruud sent down six of them while Zverev managed to hit even more with 10. By stark contrast, only one double fault was served for the entire match, by Zverev.

Ruud had a better first serve percentage (75 to 67) and second serve points won percentage (63 to 55) than Zverev, but the latter narrowly notched a better first serve points won percentage (80 to 79).

Both men converted two break point chances in the match, but since Ruud faced one more than Zverev, his converted percentage was lower.

Post match, Ruud said that “it was great to get that break early on [in the third set] and I was able to keep it all the way out.”

Rudd was also very happy with his serving in particular. “I was serving well,” he said. “I can thank my serving for the win today.”

Ruud now faces Argentine Francisco Cerundolo in the semi final, after the Argentinian defeated Jannik Sinner earlier in the day when Sinner had to retire hurt in the first set. No matter who wins that semi final, the winner will move on to play in their first ATP Masters 1000 final.
