2024 AFL National Draft Combine list revealed

THE AFL has today released a list of 65 players invited to this year’s National Draft Combine, set to take place in Melbourne from Friday October 4 to Sunday October 6. Rookie Me will again conduct the fitness testing, which includes the vertical and running vertical jumps, 20-metre sprint, agility test, and the 2km time trial.

AFL clubs nominated 50 prospects each, with those yielding the most nominations making up the 65-player intake. A further 25 players with less nominations have been added to a shortlist for the various state combines. Victoria’s will take place on Sunday October 6, while SA (October 12) and WA (October 13) host theirs across the same weekend.

Under 18 National Championships finalists Vic Country and Vic Metro dominate the National Combine list with a combined 39 players selected. 10 players each have been chosen from the South and West Australian pools, while the NSW-ACT regions had four, and a pair of Queenslanders were invited.

Sandringham Dragons proved the most prolific club of the lot, with a high of nine prospects set to take part in the National testing. Among them are club-tied players in Levi Ashcroft (Brisbane Lions father-son), Samuel Marshall (Lions Academy), and Adrian Cole (St Kilda Next Generation Academy).

A further nine players with club connections were nominated nationally. Among them, Larke Medallist Leonardo Lombard (Suns Academy) is the standout, along with Essendon NGA member Isaac Kako and West Coast NGA livewire Malakai Champion. Both Camporeale twins – Ben and Lucas – will attend, and are father-son candidates for Carlton.

Lombard included, there are five Northern Academy products on the National Combine list. With the consideration of the state combine shortlist, 17 of the total 90 nominees are already tied to clubs – a little under 20 per cent of the overall intake as the AFL continues to work through bidding system changes.
