WITH five rounds remaining, the five-team Tasmanian State League (TSL) Women’s is shaping up and we take a look at how the five teams have gone to date.

1 Glenorchy (10 wins, 1 loss | 295.79% | 40 points)

After a Round 1 loss to Launceston, Glenorchy has won 10 on the trot and raced to the top of the table, getting stronger as the season went on. A narrow 13-point win over Clarence heading into this weekend’s bye has the Magpies holding a clear advantage in top spot. With Burnie in between two byes, and then Tigers and Clarence to finish off the home and away season, Glenorchy are well positioned at the top of the table.

Sarah Skinner has the most bests to her name, having been named in the Magpies’ best eight of a possible 10 times. Macklyn Sutcliffe has found her way into the bests and also booted nine goals in her 11 games – third overall for the club, while Brieanna Barwick has booted four goals and been named in the best six times. Nietta Lynch leads the goal kicking with 25 from 11 games, ahead of Natalie Daniels with 12 majors.

2 Clarence (7 wins, 3 losses | 400.56% | 28 points)

The Roos are a clear second, 12 points behind Glenorchy, but have a superior percentage of more than 400. When they win, they really win, with four scores over the ton, and their opponents restricted to four goals or less in every game except for a Round 3 loss to Glenorchy. They play every other side in the run home, with a bye in the penultimate round.

Georgia Pennicott has been named in the best five times from 10 games, while Bronte Scott, Nicole Bresnehan and Sophie Pennicott have also been among the best more often than not. Jacinta Limbrick leads the goal kicking with 20 majors, ahead of Maddison Smith (15), Natalie Heggie (14) and Darcy Elliston (10).

3 Launceston (6 wins, 4 losses | 278.83% | 24 points)

Launceston started the season on fire with a win over Glenorchy and big victories over Burnie and Tigers. They went down to Clarence in Round 4 and sit with six wins from 10 games, coming off the back of a thumping 132-point belting of Burnie. In the final five rounds they play Burnie twice more, Clarence and Tigers.

Angela Dixon has been the top player thus far this season, named in the best six times from 10 games, averaging a goal of game at the same time. Abbey Green has also been impressive, named in the best five times from nine games and having booted nine goals. Young star Mia King has played the six games, booting four goals and named in the best on two occasions. Courtney Webb leads all-comers with 15 majors in just five games, but 11 of those came in that huge win over Burnie.

4 Tigers (2 wins, 9 losses | 15.25% | 8 points)

Tigers have had just the two wins for the season, both of which came against Burnie. Last weekend, Tigers had the lowest winning score of the year with 1.5 (11) to defeat the Dockers by two points, repeating the effort they had earlier in the year when they won by 26 points at home. In the final five rounds they have two byes and play Launceston, Clarence and Glenorchy.

Marla Neal has been superb all season for Tigers, named in the best 10 times from 11 games, while Cara Brooke has found her way into the bests nine times in 11 games. Gillian Millar (six) and Jessica Murphy (five) have also been prominent players for Tigers. In terms of goal kickers, Kristy Baker has four majors, while Erin Maree Lucas booted her three goals against Burnie earlier in the season.

5 Burnie (1 win, 9 losses | 15.07% | 4 points)

Burnie sits at the bottom after losing to Tigers last round, and has just the one win – an impressive 25-point win over Tigers in Round 8. They came agonisingly close to repeating the feat in Round 13, going down by two points. Having only booted one goal in the first five rounds, they booted 14 in the next three, and have booted 16 for the season to date.

The team is led by young stars Libby and Chloe Haines, and Lauren Stevenson, who all represented the Eastern Allies at the AFL Women’s Under 18 Championships. Libby Haines has been named in the best seven times, Chloe Haines six and Stevenson six, and along with Courtney Chandler, have been the standouts for Burnie. Hannah Martin has booted five goals in three games to lead the goal kicking, while Emma Humphries has three.
