IN a Super Saturday today, Waratah will look to defend its top-four spot against St Marys, as Southern Districts continue their undefeated season against the Wanderers. A battle for second place will see Darwin Buffaloes take on an in-form Nightcliff, followed by a fight to get off the bottom of the ladder between Tiwi Bombers and Palmerston Magpies.

WARATAH V ST MARYS

Round 5 – Saturday, November 3, 4:00pm

Ever since its Round 1 defeat, Waratah has been on a roll. Lachlan Collihole has provided a real target up forward and has become a weapon for the Warriors with eight goals for the year. Cameron Barrett has complemented Collihole with five majors and midfielder Samuel Weddell has been working hard each round. St Marys’ guns, Benjamin Taylor, Nathaniel Paredes, and Thomas Davies will be eager to bounce back from a poor team performance last week. It could be a turning point for the Saints if the can pull of the win.

SOUTHERN DISTRICTS V THE WANDERERS

The Crocs have been putting on a clinic for the past four weeks, showing the competition they are still the team to beat. Warhorses Lionel Ogden, Clinton Gallio, and Dylan McLachlan are having another good season, feeding a very versatile forward line lead by Shane Thorne. The Wanderers will have its hands full with the reigning premiers this weekend, and will need to dig deep if they are to come away with the win.

DARWIN BUFFALOES V NIGHTCLIFF

Round 5 – Saturday, November 3,  4:00pm

This weekend will be a battle of attrition as Darwin takes on Nightcliff in the battle between second and third. Darwin will need a strong defensive effort to stop all that firepower the Tigers have in their forward line. Nightcliff forwards, Trent Melville and Wade Derksen are both ranked in the top five for goals, making them the most damaging forward line in the competition. Darwin has held strong so far with only one loss for the year, X-factor Malcolm Rosas has been in exceptional form along with Darren Shillabeer who kicked four majors last week. The Tigers will have to face the reigning premiers next week but Grand Finalists Darwin will be a good test for Nightcliff.

PALMERSTON MAGPIES V TIWI BOMBERS

Round 5 – Saturday, November 3,  7:10pm

It has not been a good season for the Magpies or Bombers who currently sit last and second last on the ladder, but this Sunday could prove an interesting contest. The Bombers have more percentage than the Magpies but do not have a win on the board. A Victory for Tiwi will send Palmerston right to the bottom of the ladder. Bombers spearhead, Dionysuis Munkara has been in outstanding form and despite his team’s poor season, has booted 12 goals for the season to provide a light up forward. It is here where the Magpies need improvement; Kyle Emery looked like he was going to be the answer in Round 1 when he kicked four majors, but has not kicked a goal since. Emery will need to have his kicking boots to help the likes of Palmerston star, Matthew Dennis.
