FRANKSTON recorded their first victory in over a year after defeating North Melbourne in Round 11 of the Victorian Football League (VFL) while the old rivals Port Melbourne and Williamstown played out a draw.

Richmond 18.15 (123) defeated Coburg 6.3 (39)

The Tigers dominated their old VFL-affiliates from the first bounce to the final siren in the unlikely surrounds of Beaconsfield, ensuring they would once again finish the round on top of the ladder. Jacob Townsend slammed home five goals from 21 disposals while Luke Nelson also impressed with 3 majors. Shai Bolton kicked one goal and had 36 touches as Coburg star Marcus Lentini racked up 32 disposals. Richmond have the bye this weekend while Coburg take on Casey at home.

Northern Blues 10.7 (67) defeated by Footscray 17.19 (121)

Footscray were comfortable victors over the Blues, however the margin was a lot larger than it perhaps should’ve been, as the Dogs kicked seven goals to two in the final term. The away side took control in the second term and didn’t look back. Anthony Scott was impressive with two goals and 26 disposals while Josh Schache also kicked two and managed 16 touches. Matthew Owies kicked five majors for the Blues as Jack Silvagni slotted three and had 26 disposals. The Blues have the bye while Footscray take on Collingwood this weekend.

Essendon 10.11 (71) defeated Box Hill 9.7 (61)

A sea-sawing contest at Windy Hill saw the Bombers emerge as victors. Essendon held the lead at each break by a margin of two points or less, but there were moments where Box Hill looked the likely winners, including midway through the final term when they took the lead. Essendon rallied however and managed to win by 10 points. David Myers had 30 disposals and kicked a goal while Harry Morrison touched the footy 26 times. Jordan Ross continued his impressive form with four goals. Box Hill face Sandringham while Essendon travel to Port Melbourne this weekend.

Frankston 16.14 (110) defeated North Melbourne 8.12 (60)

It was a good day for Victorian football as the Dolphins notched up their first win of the season, a dominant 50-point victory over the Kangaroos. A tight first term was followed by a Frankston explosion, as they piled on eight goals to three in the second quarter to take control, and they never looked back. Corey Rich and Yilber Zijai kicked three each for the home side while Nathan Freeman (34 disposals) and Will Fordham (29 disposals) carved up in the midfield. Tom Campbell was best for North with a goal and 23 disposals. Frankston travel to Geelong this Saturday as North Melbourne have the bye.

Sandringham 9.9 (63) defeated by Werribee 13.9 (87)

The Zebras fell at home to the Tigers despite an encouraging first quarter display. Sandy lead by 19 points at the first break but from then on it was all Werribee, as they restricted the Zebras to just four goals for the remainder of the game, having kicked five in the first term alone. Michael Barlow kicked three goals and had 23 disposals while Jake Riccardi also chimed in with three majors. Tom Gribble slotted one and had 32 touches, while Dan Hannebery had a solid outing with 23 disposals. Sandy face Box Hill at the City Oval while Werribee host Williamstown this weekend.

Port Melbourne 10.14 (74) drew Williamstown 10.14 (74)

The second draw of the VFL season and only the eight ever between the old rivals Port Melbourne and Williamstown. Port had a lead as large as 23 points closing in on three-quarter time but the Seagulls fought back hard in the final term and even had the lead before Port steadied and the match ended all square. Nick Rodda, Jayden Ottavi, Dylan Conway, and Ed Phillips all kicked two for their respective sides while Shannen Lange had a day out with 33 disposals, a goal and 12 tackles. Port take on Essendon as Williamstown travel to Werribee this Sunday.
