IN this week’s AFL Women’s Stats Analysis, we take a look at the top five performers over the first two rounds who have topped the stats sheet in the main statistical categories. The ones who immediately jump off the page include Adelaide’s Anne Hatchard – averaging six more touches than any other player and also second in marks with six per game – and Kiara Bowers who is averaging a mind-boggling 16 tackles per game, as well as finishing top five for inside 50s with 5.5 per game.

A host of young players have already made their way onto top five lists, with first-year stars, Tarni White (St Kilda, marks), Grace Egan (Carlton, tackles) and Roxanne Roux (Fremantle, goals) all making it. Some of the most improved players also make the top five lists, with Geelong young guns, Olivia Purcell (disposals) and Rebecca Webster (marks), Gold Coast ruck Lauren Bella (hitouts) and teammate Jacqui Yorsten (tackles), Fremantle’s Sabreena Duffy (goals) and Brisbane’s Jesse Tawhaio-Wardlaw (goals) those second year players to make the cut.

The expansion clubs will take time, but the likes of White, Richmond’s Courtney Wakefield (marks),  Phoebe Monahan and Akec Makur Chuot (both rebounds), and West Coast’s Emma Swanson (inside 50s) have already made profound impacts for their new clubs. There is still a long way to go, but the first impacts of these players has already been important.
