2021 DC Medal Count Leaderboard: Top two talents lead way with even chasing pack
TWO of Victoria’s top AFL Women’s Draft prospects are leading the way at the midpoint of the season in the Draft Central (DC) Medal count for NAB League Girls. Oakleigh Chargers’ Charlie Rowbottom has polled 19 of a possible 20 votes, three votes ahead of Calder Cannons’ Georgie Prespakis (16), with both players having played four games thus far in season 2021.
After that it is an even split across the board with Geelong Falcons defender Annie Lee having a game in hand following a consistent start to the season polling 13 votes in three games, while Rowbottom’s teammate Stella Reid, and Tasmania Devils’ Claire Ransom have polled the 13 in four games. Ransom is also currently the highest ranked player of the bottom-agers, with Western Jets duo Montana Ham (11 votes) and Charlotte Baskaran (10), and Dandenong Stingrays’ Emily Shepherd (10) the others inside the Top 10.
Also included in the Top 10 of the DC Medal Leaderboard is Tasmania Devils’ Perri King and Geelong Falcons’ Tess Craven who have both attracted 11 votes. The voting system is 5-4-3-2-1 awarded by each of the individual writers. The highest ranked top-age (19-year-old) talent is Bendigo Pioneers’ Elizabeth Snell who is one vote outside the Top 10 with nine votes. Other clubs’ not previously mentioned highest vote-getters are Megan Girolami (Northern, nine votes), Georgia Campbell (Eastern, seven), Aurora Smith (Murray, seven), Grace McRae (Gippsland, five), Paige Scott (GWV, five) and Sofia Hurley (Sandringham, five).
This year marks the first year the DC Medal will be fully completed, with the NAB League Girls season only lasting three rounds in 2020. At the season cancellation, Northern Knights’ Ellie McKenzie (Richmond, pick one) and Dandenong Stingrays’ Tyanna Smith (St Kilda, pick six) were tied for first place.
