2021 NAB League Boys Player of the Week: Round 2
DANDENONG Stingrays’ Connor Macdonald has earned the Draft Central NAB League Boys Player of the Week for Round 2 following a standout performance in Dandenong’s gallant loss to the Greater Western Victoria (GWV) Rebels. The versatile talent drove the ball forward on many occasions, standing up against a strong Rebels side at Queen Elizabeth Oval, and winning the fan vote for the nomination against Oakleigh Chargers’ Nick Daicos.
Macdonald racked up a round-high 33 touches, as well as 10 marks, 10 inside 50s, 12 tackles and three rebound 50s in what could almost be described as an Australian rules football version of a quadruple-double. The 18-year-old stands at 184cm and backed up an impressive first round effort – where he kicked two goals – to influence the contest with his run and work rate around the ground.
In the 2021 season, Macdonald is averaging 28.5 disposals, 7.0 marks, 6.5 inside 50s, 7.5 tackles and has booted 2.4, beginning the year in great form. He has grown at least five centimetres from his Under 16s year, where he managed to play three games, averaging 7.3 disposals, 1.0 marks, 1.7 inside 50s and 1.3 tackles per game in 2019.
Dandenong Stingrays take on Sandringham Dragons on Saturday, April 17 at Trevor Barker Oval from 2:15pm, before the month off begins for the NAB League Boys, and the Stingrays hosting the Gold Coast Suns Academy at 2:15pm on Saturday, May 22.
