Stat Leaders: 2022 AFL Women’s – Round 4

NORTH Melbourne midfielder Ash Riddell continued her scintillating start to season 2022, dominating the stats sheet as her side shot into the top four on Sunday afternoon. Plenty more players produced big numbers in Round 4 of the AFL Women’s season, find out who as we take a look at this week’s stat leaders.

Riddell’s second 30-plus disposal game in four outings helped her top the disposal (30) and kick (22) charts this week, suiting North’s controlled gamestyle beautifully. The small midfielder still leads the season’s total disposal tally with an average of 28.8, thriving among the Roos’ stacked engine room.

While her main ball movement method came by foot, Riddell’s fellow Roos Jenna Bruton and Mia King opted to go by hand. The pair was tied for the most handballs this week at 16 apiece, showcasing the depth of ball winning options at North Melbourne’s disposal.

A couple of Crows also returned dominant performances in Adelaide’s win over Melbourne, with hard working midfielder Anne Hatchard racking up nine marks to surpass her unbeaten season average of 7.8. She also notched a game-high 29 disposals in one of the best individual games of the round.

Teammate Erin Phillips tied with Greater Western Sydney’s Nicola Barr and Geelong’s Chloe Scheer for the most goals in Round 4, with each player booting three. While Phillips spearheaded the Crows’ win, Scheer’s efforts fell just short of getting the Cats over the line against Brisbane, and Barr’s exploits accounted for her first ever senior goals. When it rains, it pours.

It was no surprise to see who got their hands dirty at the contest in terms of tackles and clearances. Alicia Eva laid a round-high 12 tackles this week, while Alison Drennan (Gold Coast) and Kirsty Lamb (Western Bulldogs) earned phenomenal clearance tallies of nine. In the ruck realm, Brisbane’s Tahlia Hickie had 34 hitouts – 13 more than her previous combined total this season.
