2022 NAB League Girls Player of the Week: Round 6

OAKLEIGH Chargers midfielder Jasmine Fleming is the Rookie Me Central NAB League Girls Player of the Week for Round 6. The top-age gun returned to action on Saturday and did so in a big way, inspiring her side to a 15-point victory over the Greater Western Victoria (GWV) Rebels at Ballarat’s City Oval.

Despite her glaring absence across the last two games, it seemed as if Fleming had not missed a beat. She was damaging as ever, topping the Chargers’ disposal count with 24 and booting three of their six goals to essentially prove the difference on the scoreboard. Also among the 17-year-old’s stats were four marks, three tackles, and four inside 50s.

Fleming is the third prospect out of Vic Metro regions to earn a Player of the Week nod this season, and just the second AFLW Academy member to do so – after Western Jets skipper Charlotte Baskaran (Round 3). Having made her NAB League debut just before finals in 2021, she rocketed up draft boards and has quite unanimously been among the top handful of talents nationwide ever since.

Coming from elite sporting pedigree, Fleming is also a talented cricketer and has continued to juggle the two codes over summer. Her elite athletic traits, flashy breakaway speed and sharp foot skills are complimented well by toughness at the contest and a willingness to compete, making her a well-rounded midfield package.

Fleming and her Chargers, who are reigning premiers, currently sit fifth in the metro standings at 3-3 having endured a few ups and downs thus far. Their next chance to impress should make for interesting viewing, as they host the Gold Coast Suns Academy at Highgate Recreation Reserve in Round 7.
